First campaign appearance; Slate announced

ballotSeveral candidates for District 86 Board Member were introduced to the members of the Downers Grove Township Republican Organization Monday night, January 14, 2013.  DGTRO meetings are the second Monday of each month, and are open to the public.

Jennifer Babbington, a member of the Organization and a candidate for District 86 Board Member, spoke to the group and announced she is part of a four-member slate, also including Claudia Manley, Victor Casini and Edward Corcoran.  (Four Members of the District 86 Board of Education will be elected April 9, 2013.)  Roger Kempa was also present and was introduced to the Organization.

The three incumbents in the race, Dennis Brennan, DeeDee Gorgol, and Kay Gallo, filed their nominating papers together, and are expected to run together.

Candidates Roger Kempa and Roseanne Rosenthal, both with extensive careers in education administration, filed separately, and have not yet announced whether they will align with the incumbents, or run independently.  HinsdaleHighSchools.com has extended an invitation to all candidates to submit opening statements for publication.

  1. Question for the administrator?
Is this the same three incumbants, Kay Gallo, Dee Gorgol and Dennis Brennan, who voted to spend 18 million on capital projects last summer without taxpayer approval. Shame on them! Time to bring in new board members and hopefully a new group will engage the community as to whether they agree with gauging the taxpayers. Anyone who has done any constuction, albiet home or business knows the taxpayers got ripped. We need new board members!!

    • The incumbents you cite did vote to approve those projects, which were approved by the Board, and funded by borrowing money without specific taxpayer approval. At the time the projects were debated, however, Board Members voting to approve them argued their own election to the Board constituted taxpayer approval of any action they deemed appropriate. Essentially the same argument President Obama uses for validation of sweeping gun control by Executive Order, without Congressional authorization.
